IIT Guwahati has initiated the online application process for GATE 2026. This is an assessment administered at the level that tests candidate's comprehensive knowledge of undergraduate subjects in Engineering, Technology, and Architecture, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in Arts, Commerce, and Science. Eligible and interested candidates can submit their application on the official site, gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The application process will open from 28th August to 6th October 2025.

Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2026
Students who are currently in the 3rd year or above of any undergraduate program OR those who have already completed a government-recognized degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities are eligible to appear for GATE 2026.
Candidates who hold memberships or certifications from professional societies/institutions are also considered, provided their qualification is recognized by the Ministry of Education (MoE), AICTE, UGC, or UPSC as being equivalent to a B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Planning degree.
Examples of such professional bodies include:Institution of Engineers (India) [IE]
Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI)
Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), including Polymer & Environmental Group
Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)
Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIIE)
Applicants who are studying abroad must either be in the third year (or above) of their Bachelor’s degree (minimum 3 years duration) in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities, or must have already completed the program.
If a candidate has already completed or is pursuing a higher degree (Master’s or above) beyond what is listed in the official eligibility table, they are still permitted to apply for GATE 2026.
Students with B.Sc., B.A., or B.Com. degrees who wish to join postgraduate programs in IITs should check the JAM 2026 Examination (organized by IIT Delhi), which is the appropriate admission route for them.
GATE 2026 Papers
The GATE 2026 exam will take place for 30 subjects (papers). Below is a list of the papers and paper codes of GATE 2026. A candidate can appear in ANY ONE or up to TWO papers of the GATE exam. Please note that the combination of TWO papers, in which a candidate can appear is from the below provided list and must be a pre-defined combination. Note that when a paper is conducted in multiple sessions, A candidate will only be mapped to appear for the examination in one of the sessions.
